Three of our athletes competed in Tacoma, WA, for the USATF Club National Track and Field Championships. Team Nebraska women competed well, scoring enough points to finish 3rd place out of 16 teams with only two athletes. Aubrey Baxter narrowly missed the Most Valuable Athlete award by winning three events and placing in an additional event. Aubrey won the hammer throw with a mark of 58.77 m, the shot put with 14.04 m, and the discus throw with 42.16 m. She also placed 5th in the javelin with a throw of 34.55 m. Ashley Miller placed in her three events over the weekend. Friday night, Ashley finished 4th in the 1500 meters in 4:29.45 and 2nd in the 800 meters in 2:13.26. The next morning, Ashley finished 5th in the 50000 meter run in 17:43.05. Peter Falcon competed in the 10,000 meter run Friday night, and finished in 10th place with a time of 34:21.48.
Team Nebraska represented at the Lincoln Mile. Seven men competed in the Elite Heat, which had 31 runners. Pierce Tallichet led the way for Team Nebraska, finishing in 9th place in 4:36.69. Cory Logsdon was right on his heels, finishing in the top-10 in 4:37.41. Kyle Johnson followed by York Thomas made the top-15 in 4:40.70 and 4:42.99, respectively. Casey Kear crossed the line next for Team Nebraska in 18th place in 4:45.73. Josiah Belzer finished in 4:50.02 to take the 21st spot, while Lee Anderson finished in 26th place in 5:02.31. In the age divisions, Ivan Marsh won the 40-44 age group in 4:59. Megan Thomas won the women’s Elite Heat in 5:24.83. Breelan Kear finished in 5th place with a time of 5:43.00. Kira Vincent and Haleigh Riggle finished together for 6th and 7th place in 5:47.13 and 5:47.33, respectively.
The Silver Rush 50 Mile was held near Leadville, CO, on July 13th. Justin Mollak finished as the 36th male in 9:01:01. Tim McGargill finished as the 54th male in 9:27:32.
Todd Nott competed in the Psyco Summer 50K Trail Run. He finished as the 2nd male and 1st master runner in 4:43:44. He also competed in the Mill County Fair 10k in Malvern, IA. Todd finished 2nd overall and as the 1st master in 38:05. One week later, Todd ran the Heifer Hustle, which was a 30K trail run at Branched Oak. Todd took home the win in 2:40:05.
Shawna Young competed in the Omaha Triathlon, finishing as the 8th overall female and 2nd in her age division.
Eric Rasmussen won the Henderson Days Road Race on July 12th, finishing in 15:16.
Theresa Gosnell and Paul Petera also competed in the Ralston race. Theresa finished as the 2nd female and 1st in her age division in 17:34. Paul ran 17:30 to finish 2nd in his age group.
The Columbus Downtown Run Around had 5-mile and 2.1-mile races. Ivan Marsh finished 7th overall in the 5-mile in 26:58, finishing as the first masters. Kyle Johnson was close behind in 8th place in 27:08. Matt Seiler won the 2.1-mile race in 10:48.
Ryan Larson ran the 1st San Fransisco Half Marathon, where he finished as the 59th male and 16th in his age division in 1:33:07.
Two Team Nebraska athletes represented well at the Hubbard Hop Fest 5K in Hubbard, OR. Josiah Belzer finished 2nd overall in 15:45, while Kira Vincent finished as the 1st female in 19:35.
